Thanks to Media Art Xploration, a organization founded by my friend Kay Matschullet, kids who participated in our photography workshops at the Boys & Girls Club on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation this past summer, were able to display their images at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco on May 17 and 18. The show, which I curated together with my co-teacher Josee Schryer, consisted of 13 photomurals and a short video entitled Stars & Turnips. In the murals and the video, the kids reacquainted themselves with the myths and legends that comprise Lakota celestial mythology - or Lakota Star Knowledge. Six kids traveled from South Dakota to San Francisco to see their work and to tour the city. What a blast!
